An aerofoil, figure 2, or instrumentation rake 60, eg for obtaining test data from a gas turbine engine, is made by an additive fabrication method, eg selective or direct metal laser melting or sintering to produce a jointless one-piece item. Instrumentation elements are integrally formed with the aerofoil or rake. All the elements necessary to mount and route instrumentation through the aerofoil or rake may be integrally formed. The instrumentation elements may include those for temperature measurement, eg thermocouples; for pressure measurement, eg pitot tubes (18, fig.1); strain gauges; accelerometers or load cells. Pitot openings may extend from a surface of the aerofoil or rake and communicate with internal passages 20 which terminate at remote outlet ports 22. |
