PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide tire monitoring system and method for surely detecting excessive reduction of pneumatic pressure of a tire without increasing cost of introduction. SOLUTION: In this tire monitoring system, a touch sensor 5 and a transmitter 7 for transmitting the results of detection by the touch sensor 5 as radio wave signals to a chassis 3 side are provided on a wheel 4, the touch sensor 5 is arranged to detect reduction of pneumatic pressure in the tire 45 and contact of the tire 45 with a rim 41 side, and a receiver 8 for receiving the radio wave signals transmitted from the transmitter 7 on the wheel 4 and a controller 10 constituted to determine whether the tire 45 comes into contact with the rim 41 side or not based on the radio wave signals received by the receiver 8 are provided on the chassis 3 side.
