A control circuit for a synchronous motor producing first and second (phase-shifted) AC voltages in normal operation and a DC voltage of less height than the amplitude of the first AC voltage when in the stopped mode comprises using a capacitor (C1) both to shift the phase between the AC voltages in normal operation and to adjust the level of the DC voltage in the stopped mode. An independent claim is also included for a control device comprising the above circuit.
