PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a violet pigment having excellent dispersibility, more paprticularly, a violet pigment providing a printed product or a coated product having excellent gloss, coloring power and clarity in the case of being used for an ink or a coating material. SOLUTION: The method for producing the violet pigment includes subjecting an aqueous slurry of C.I. pigment violet 23 to spray drying. Preferably, the violet pigment contains 0.1-30% organic compound selected from an organic pigment derivative represented by a specific structural formula, an anthraquinone derivative and a triazine derivative. More preferably, the organic compound is the organic pigment derivative represented by the above specific structural formula and the organic pigment residue is represented by C.I. pigment violet 23 residue.
