[Also in Group XXIII] A device for handling watch crystals comprises a number of fingers 13 movable towards one another to grip the crystal, projections 40 on the base of the gripping device for seating on the uprights 35 of a crystal supporting stand 33 and means on the device for adjusting the distance between the ends of the fingers 13 and the supporting surface 34 of the stand. The fingers 13 are mounted in a casing comprising upper and lower cup-like members 1, 2 in telescopic relation, the fingers extending through radial slots 27 in the bottom of the cup 2. A dependent boss 26 in the upper end of the cup 1 provides a well 6 which accommodates a non- round nut 7 which is mounted on a threaded stem 9 extending axially through the casing. A rod 30 having a finger knob 31 at one end and at the other end a conical head 32, is freely slidable in an axial passage in the rod 30. The stem 9 at its lower end is provided with a non-round head 10 fitted in the bottom wall 4 of the cup 2. Mounted on the stem 9 adjacent to the stem 10 is a sleeve 11 having an annular groove 12 that is engaged by curved noses 17 of the fingers 13 the noses being held in the groove 12 by a washer 19 fitted around the stem 9 and confined by nuts 20, 21. A conical spring 22 seated on the bottom wall of the cup 2 engages notches 16 in the heads 15 of the angers whereby a rocking pivotal movement of the fingers is allowed. An adjusting head 23 for the fingers is in the form of a frusto-conical follower which fits around the stem 9 and is freely movable up and down. To close the jaws the cup 1 is rotated relative to the cup 2. A number of disc-shaped projections 40 are engaged at the bottom of the cup 2 in groups of different heights. When the tool is placed on the stand with three of the discs 40 of selected height seated upon the shoulders 36 of the posts 35, the arrangement is such that the lower ends of the fingers are at a given distance from the upper surface of the concavity 34 of the stand so that the edge of the crystal resting therein will be engaged by the fingers at a distance from the lower surface of the crystal. Depression of the rod 30 holds the crystal in the concavity. |
