PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coin identification device hardly affected by an upward/downward shift of a coin passage locus of a coin conveying passage. SOLUTION: This coin identification device is provided with a conveying passage through which a coin passes, sensors formed by electromagnetically coupling two coils, a sinewave signal oscillation part 1 exciting the two coils, a detection part 3 inputting signals from the sensors, an identification part identifying materials of the coin passing through the conveying passage based on signals outputted from the detection part. The coin identification device has two sets of the sensors 2, which are connected in series or in parallel electrically between the sinewave signal oscillation part 1 and the detection part 3 and are disposed with spacing along the conveying passage. The identification part 4 identifies the materials and outside diameter of the coin passing through the conveying passage based on the signals outputted from the detection part.
