PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an extrusion press in which a hydraulic pump in an extrusion step, a motor for driving the hydraulic pump and pumps are operated in an efficient state, the number of the operating pumps is reduced, and the energy consumption is small, and a control method of the same. SOLUTION: The extrusion press comprises a control unit capable of providing the priority to the pressure by limiting the discharge rate of a hydraulic pump, and a control unit capable of providing the discharge rate by limiting the pressure of the hydraulic pump. First extrusion is performed with the priority control of the pressure, and the load pressure during the extrusion is detected.
