PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of preventing faulty transfer of a colored toner image even when using embossed paper or the like having large ruggedness on its surface as paper. SOLUTION: A corona discharger 39 is provided at a spot where a grounded metallic roll 33 is provided on the back side of an intermediate transfer belt 12 near the surface of the intermediate transfer belt 12 on a downstream side in a conveying direction from a nip position with a primary transfer roll 31T, so as to adjust the electrified amount of a transparent toner image 20 until four color images of Y to K are transferred to the transparent toner image 20. By radiating negative discharge to negatively electrified transparent toner 15T from the surface side of the intermediate transfer belt 12, potential of a transparent toner layer 20A is uniformized to make the transparent layer 20A hardly move. By superposing the colored toner layer 21A on the transparent toner layer 20A and transferring it to the paper P, the transparent toner layer 20A and the colored toner layer 21A are easily separated between the layers, so that transferability to the paper P is improved.
