1439582 Making blocks of veneer tubes SCHOCK & CO GmbH 14 Sept 1973 [15 Sept 1972] 6146/75 Heading B3T [Also in Division B5] In a method of making blocks composed of veneer rolled into tubular form, the veneers are successively peeled from a rotating log in a moistened condition, then coiling the veneers to form tubes, which are then dried to remove the moisture excess and the tubes are then arranged in layers and simultaneously applied with adhesive on their outer surfaces to form a block. The peeling and coiling of the cut veneers is effected as described and claimed in copending Application 43239/73 the subsequently dried tubes 6, 6.1, 6.2 &c. are discharged from the drier conveyers 15, 16 into a shoot 18 into a container 20 which is reciprocatable relative to the discharge shoot so that successive layers are deposited in the container 20 glue nozzles 19, 19.1 with jets 22 of glue are located one on each side of the shoot so that the external surface of the veneer tubes are coated with adhesive as they are deposited in the container. The glued stack 24 is then applied to an immersion device 25 and is lowered into a bath of adhesive protecting material and when removed therefrom is subject to a compressed air blast to remove excess protecting material which drains back into the bath. The tube stack or block so formed may be sawn into layers forming honeycombe structure and may be glued together to form continuous strips. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 7 the tubes are supplied to a continuous production device similar to that of continuous casting in which they are supplied to an open sided supporting structure 44, 45, 46 and are sprayed with adhesive as they enter the structure the pre-glued stack being subjected to an air blast 47 to promote drying of the adhesive. The sides 44, 45 of the structure are in the form of conveyers and the bottom 46 is continuously moved downwards away from the walls so that a continuous stack of veneer tubes is produced from the bottom of the structure. |
