A rotary engine is provided to shorten the conventional four-stroke cycle to three-stroke cycle and to automatically ignite mixed fuel with residual heat of exhausted combustion gas. A rotary engine comprises a rotary cylinder(100) having a stroke space(110) inside, and a rotor(200) rotating in the rotary cylinder. The rotary cylinder includes a compression space(120) formed by extending the stroke space out and a rotary piston rotating in the compression space so that combustion and expansion strokes are performed in the compression space. The rotor includes a head(210) protruding on the outer circumference and rotates around a center shaft in the compression space.
