PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a support member of a safety fence for a railway which can be simply installed without damaging a signal line etc. SOLUTION: This support member of the safety fence for the railway comprises: a fixing portion fixed to a railway rail; a holding portion which is composed of a horizontal portion mounted to the fixing portion and laterally elongated from the fixing portion, and a raised portion almost vertically raised outside with respect to a train traveling on the railway rail from the horizontal portion; a gripping portion which is provided in the raised portion of the holding portion; and a support portion which is fixed to the gripping portion in a state of having at least a lower end installed on a track bed.
