The invention relates to a latching device 1 for an escape chute 6 in an aircraft. The latching device 1 is constructed in a mirror image and comprises, amongst other things, two door fittings 7, between which a rotating shaft 8 is received so as to be pivotable, two floor fittings 9 fixedly connected in a threshold area 2 to the fuselage cell of the aircraft, in which floor fittings 9 a rocker 11 is received in each case so as to be tiltable for the latching of the girt bar 15, and a girt bar 15 for connection of the escape chute 6 mounted in a storage container 5. A press-down element 17 is held on each of the door fitting ends 16 by securing means 18. In a normal state of the latching device 1 the girt bar is held by the press-down element 17 and the brackets 20 so that the aircraft door 3 can be opened without triggering the escape chute 6. In an emergency state the girt bar 15 is passed by the pivoting of the rotating shaft into a receiving area 10 of the floor fitting 9 and secured in this position by means of the rocker 11 actuated by the press-down element 17. According to the invention the press-down element 17 can be released from the door fitting end 16 by actuating the securing means 18 so that the girt bar 15 becomes free. This functionality is important if an aircraft door is below the water surface in case of a landing on water and the associated escape chute is to be used on another aircraft door 3 or, on the other hand, maintenance work is to be carried out.
