A valve timing adjuster is provided to prevent generation of hammering noise and control the valve timing by limiting the phase of an engine within target phase range. A valve timing adjuster comprises a first rotating body(18) rotating together a drive shaft; a second rotating body(14) rotating with a driven shaft(2); and a supply control element(30) controlling the feeding of working oil introducing to an advancing chamber and a retarding chamber. The second rotating body drives the driven shaft to the advancing direction or retarding direction, when working oil is fed into the advancing chamber or the retarding chamber. The supply control element alternates the advancing supply cycle and the retarding supply cycle when limiting the phase of the driven shaft with respect to the drive shaft within a target phase range.
