摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide composite carbon spheres having high singularity of carbon particles and large particle diameters, which are suitably used for a black pigment used for electronic paper and a black matrix, for a PTC (Positive Temperature Coefficient) element, a semiconductor sealing material, and a negative pole material of a lithium secondary battery. SOLUTION: The composite carbon spheres comprise coalesced particles of carbon spheres produced by pyrolysis and precipitation of a primary source hydrocarbon gas introduced into a front stage position in an upstream region of an external heating pyrolysis furnace and carbon spheres produced by pyrolysis and precipitation of a secondary source hydrocarbon gas introduced into a rear stage position in a downstream region of the pyrolysis furnace; and the composite carbon spheres have dn (arithmetic average particle diameter) of 200 to 500 nm, Dst (Stokes mode diameter) of 300 to 2,000 nm and a specific surface area of 1.0 to 12.0 m<SP>2</SP>/g. The method for manufacturing the composite carbon spheres is carried out by introducing a primary source hydrocarbon gas into a front stage position in an upstream region of an external heating pyrolysis furnace and pyrolyzing the gas under conditions of the furnace temperature of 900 to 1,100°C, the hydrocarbon gas concentration of 30 to 100 vol% and the linear velocity of the hydrocarbon gas of 0.02 to 4.0 m/sec, while introducing a secondary source hydrocarbon gas at a rear stage position in a downstream region and setting and controlling the temperature in the downstream region to 900 to 1,100°C and the furnace retention time in the downstream region to 1 to 10 seconds.
