A method for making isolongifolenone involving reacting (-)-isolongifolene with chromium hexacarbonyl and t-butyl hydroperoxide. Also a method for for repelling arthropods involving treating an object or area with an arthropod repelling effective amount of isolongifolenone and/or at least one isolongifolenone analog (and optionally a carrier or carrier material).
