Polyester foil having hydrophilic coating, preparation and use thereof

Hydrophilic coating composition (I) comprising water, polyvinyl pyrrolidone and surfactants, is new. Independent claims are also included for: (1) hydrophilically coated polyester foil comprising a polyester foil and a hydrophilic coating on single or both the sides, where the coating of the drying product is a hydrophilic coating composition; and (2) preparing a hydrophilically coated polyester foil comprising: (a) melting polyester chips in an extruder; (b) extruding through a slotted nozzle; (c) cooling on coolroll; and (d) stretching, thermally fixing and rolling, where it is coated after cooling on the cooling roll and before rolling up with (I).
