PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface treating agent enhancing production efficiency, reducing cost for processing and improving working environment by forming a thin film which is excellent in lubricating performance, processability or rust-prevention on a surface of materials to be processed or processing implement, and preserving the thin film on the surface of the materials to be processed or surface of a sliding parts after processing, and to provide a method for treating a surface by using the surface treating agent, and a product processed by the method or implement for the processing. SOLUTION: The surface treating agent comprises 30-95 mass% of a volatile liquid having a boiling point below 300°C, 1-50 mass% of a mineral oil or a synthetic lubricating base oil, and 0.1-50 mass% of a compound having an amide group, wherein the compound having an amido group is preferably a mono amide represented by general formula (1): R<SP>1</SP>-CO-NH-R<SP>2</SP>(in the formula R<SP>1</SP>and R<SP>2</SP>are each a 6-20C alkyl group or an alkenyl group).
