Acrylonitrile is obtained from acrolein cyanohydrin in the presence of NH3, O2 and optionally steam by contact with a catalyst active in the production of acrylonitrile from an olefine, ammonia and air; the acrolein cyanohydrin may be a by-product in acrylonitrile production from an olefine, ammonia and air, and when separated from the products may be recycled, preferably diluted with water, into the acrylonitrile production process where it is transformed into acrylonitrile and HCN. Preferred conditions and catalyst components are given.ALSO:A catalyst suitable for the production of acrylonitrile and HCN from acrolein cyanohydrin, ammonia and oxygen (see Division C2) is obtained by mixing aqueous solutions of Fe(NO3)3. 9H2O, Bi(NO3)3. 5H2), (NH4)6Me, O24. 4H2O, HNO3, H3PO4 and colloidal silicic acid, evaporating to dryness, and heating. |
