PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing device capable of generating a high definition progressive image signal from an interlace image signal, by reducing processings which become factors for noise occurrence. SOLUTION: Frame resolution transformation processing and field resolution transformation processing are applied to an input interlace image signal, respectively in parallel. Image data, after the frame resolution transformation processing having the same high resolution as a progressive image signal to be outputted and image data, after the field resolution transformation processing having the same high resolution as the progressive image signal to be outputted are generated, respectively. Then, the image data, after the frame resolution transformation processing and the image data, after the field resolution transformation processing are composited, based on the result of motion detection processing performed on the input interlace image signal. A high-definition image, after the frame resolution transformation processing, is applied to a still image region, an image after the field resolution transformation processing without temporal errors is applied to a moving video region.
