A system and a method for detecting a scrolling text in a mixed mode film and video are provided to detect the scrolling text more accurately in a mixed mode video sequence and compensate motion vibration occurring in the scrolling text, thereby more smoothly reproducing a video sequence. A system for detecting a scrolling text comprises a de-interlacing unit and a scrolling text detection unit(450). The de-interlacing unit receives a 3:2 pulldown film and a mixed mode video sequence including a mixed scrolling text. The de-interlacing unit de-interlaces even and odd fields to generate a progressive-scan mixed mode video sequence. The 3:2 pulldown film alternatively exchanges three fields with two fields. The scrolling text detection unit comprises a motion estimation unit(410), an extraction frame motion analysis unit(420) and a consecutive frame motion analysis unit(430). The motion estimation unit generates a plurality of motion vectors between blocks of at least two frames extracted from the progressive-scan mixed mode video sequence. |
