A method for adaptively selecting a P2P communication mode and an apparatus therefor are provided to enable a base station to select one of the P2P communication mode and a mobile communication mode, adaptively in consideration of the wireless environment of two terminals when the frequency bands used in the mobile communication and P2P communication are the same. A terminal(102) transmits a connection request message to a base station(100) in order to perform communication with the other terminal(104)(210). The base station broadcasts a P2P setup preparation instructing message to terminals(104, 106, 112) within a service coverage to determine whether the P2P communication connection is possible or not, before connecting to a mobile communication mode. The terminal broadcasts a PNR_req message to the other terminals(214). The base station receives a response message(PNR rsp) to the PNR_req message from a corresponding terminal(216). The base station receives the response message from terminals receiving the PNR req message(218), determines whether to use the P2P communication between the terminal and the other terminals based on information included in the PNR rsp message(220), and then selects a corresponding communication mode(222). |
