PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a damping device, an earthquake-proof bridge structure, and an aseismatic reinforcing method for an existing bridge for preventing occurrence of a crack in the vicinity of a peripheral fringe of a panel part due to great deformation caused by, for example, inputting of vibrational energy generated by earthquake and absorbing the vibrational energy by shearing plastic deformation of the panel part securely. SOLUTION: This damping device is provided with a panel damper part 31 fixed in a lower part structure 20 among an upper part structure 10 and the lower part structure 20 connected mutually to move relatively by inputting of vibrational energy, arranged to come into contact substantially with a part of the upper part structure 10, and made of steel having low yielding point and absorbing the vibrational energy by shearing deformation in the direction of relative travel. A thick wall part 36 is provided in a fixed side end part of the panel damper part 31 and is formed integrally with the panel damper part 31. A tapered part 37 having gradually changing wall thickness is formed in a boundary part between the thick wall part 36 and it in the panel damper part 31. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
