Aqs. solns or dispersions of cpds contg. oxyalkylene or polyoxyalkylene gps. e.g. alkylene gps. alkylene oxide adduct surfactants used in textile, petroleum, detergent and paper industry, are stabilised by incorporating 0.05-1 wt % of cpds of formula: (where R1 and R2 are H or 1-4C alkyl, n is 0, 1 or 2, Z is -(CH2)m-, -CH2-C(CH3)2-CH2-, -CH2-CH(CH2X)-CH2-, -CH2-C(CH2X)-CH2-, -CH2-C(CH3)(CH2X)-CH2-, and m is 2 to 12).
