1304922 Making babies' pants SOC A RESPONSABILITE LIMITEE DITE COMPTOIR EUROPEEN DE DISTRIBUTION ET DE REPRESENTATION 13 Feb 1970 [13 Feb 1969] 7178/70 Heading A3V [Also in Divisions B5 and B8] A method of manufacturing articles from flexible material, e.g. polyethylene, in roll form, comprises unrolling a length of material so as to form a series of continuous, superimposed layers, severing the layers with a single cut and laying them out to form a pile, and cutting through the pile to the pattern of the articles to be made up. A method of making baby pants is described in which the sheet material 2 in the form of flattened sleeving is unwound from roll 1 through bars 5, 6 acting as a centering and tensioning device and rewound onto a roller 3 having a longitudinal surface groove 4. A device 7 stops the roller (driven from motor M) after a predetermined number of revolutions. A hot iron (8) is inserted into the material adjacent the groove to weld the layers together, and then the material is cut through along the grooves and laid out to form a pile having a stepped edge 12. The pile is cut through according to a pattern 13 defining a contour or half-contour of the article, spot welds 14 being made in the waste material to stop the layers slipping over one another. A machine for rerolling the material is also described (see Fig. 2), the roller 3 being driven by motor M through reduction gearing 20. |
