Derivs have formula: (where R is H or 1-5C acyl) and are prepd. by redn of p-menthane-8-thiol-3-one with a complex metallic hydride and acylation of the OH gp. obtd. Examples are 8-mercapto p-menthane-3-ol and its acetate, etc. The cpds. have an aromatic fresh fruity smell. |
