The set comprises a pump flange-mounted on a driving motor. On the end of the driving shaft are three or more components forming a hermetic sealing cover for the shaft from inside the pump to the adjacent motor flange. These components consist of the pump impeller with its long hub protecting both the shaft inside the pump and part of it outside, together with a washer and a liquid thrower. The shaft driving the pump can be in the form of a threaded stud of cheap metal susceptible to attack by the liquid handled by the pump and supporting the three components. One end of this stud screws into a tapped hole in the end of the motor shaft.
