A system for production of a multi coloured variable patterns eg for use in production of colour printed materials, in which a prototype is manually produced which contains flat element groups, has a colour selected for each element group and produced on a foil or similar material in which the group elements remain clear and the remaining foil surface is blackened. The colour selections are then separately photographed in sequence to produce a colour slide of each selection and they are then inserted into the appropriate projector of a series with a colour disc having a number of thin colour filter windows, and the projectors worked simultaneously to produce a single image at their common focal plane.
