The practice land mine is used in training exercises and can simulate detonation when the detonator is fired by pressure exerted on it. This simulated detonation is in the form of a visible smoke signal issuing from vents (7, 8) in the mine casing. The detonator fires an ignition charge (20) embedded in a gas producing powder (12). The gas pressure generated opens a valve (13) against a seal (19) and the escaping gas loosens the earth above the mine. A fuse (28), ignited by the gas powder, ignites a lower charge (25) of smoke producing powder. This escapes by following the gas and provides the visible signal.
|
