Prevention of corrosion in high pressure reactors - using inner metal shell in ceramic insulation with gas purge

Reactor has inner shell of refractory insulating ceramic and is capable of operation at over 400 degrees C. Located inside the inner insulation is a metal sheet, mounted parallel to the vessel walls. It is maintained at a uniform temp. above the dew pt. of the gas vapour mixture present in the reactor. It is made in several overlapping segments through which gas can flow. The reactor vessel has additional branches for blowing a barrier gas into the inner insulation. It is used to reduce heat losses from, and corrosion of reactor vessels operating at high pressures and temp. The system avoids the reaction gases diffusing through the vessel walls and if the gases are below the dew pt., condensation occurs. This would cause corrosion, esp. where H2O is involved.
