Filler material, e.g. sand, used to prevent molten metal freezing in a discharge duct of a ladle is prevented from entering an ingot mould by deflection or being caught in a container C. The kinetic energy of the sand is insufficient to move or pivot the deflector or container from beneath the ladle outlet but the kinetic energy of the molten metal which follows the sand moves the deflector or the container to allow the metal to enter the mould. <IMAGE> |
