PURPOSE:An antidiabetic agent having improved action by oral administration, comprising oleanolic acid as an active constituent. CONSTITUTION:An antidiabetic agent comprising oleanolic acid of the formula as an active constituent, having a drug action of 250mg/kg almost the same as 3 units of insulin, orally administered in a dose of 500-250mg 2-3 times per day, preferably in the form suitable for absorption from the intestinal tract. The compound of the formula can be extracted from plants, e.g. Japanese swertia or oleanders, and the preparation cost is lower than that of insulin. The use of a hydrolyzate of sugar beets with an acid is particularly advantageous. |
