The manioc is treated by removing the earth and stones from the tubers, washing, topping, and then cutting the tubers into longitudinal pieces, cleaning them and cutting them up into small substantially cubic pieces. The pieces are then crushed and ground, followed by draining to recover the particles, which are then treated to remove lumps followed by drying. The dried product is then ground and sieved. The processes continuous or semi-continuous. The prod. used in food prepns. is prepd. as a semolina or a fine flour. The process enables semi-automation of the process, which is at present mostly manual, using machines at particular stages adapted for that purpose. |
