1,042,316. Valves. HYMATIC ENGINEERING CO. Ltd. Nov. 12, 1963 [Nov. 15, 1962], No. 43212/62. Heading F2V. A valve comprises a valve stem 25, Fig. 1 (not shown), having a tapered sealing surface 26 which co-operates with a seating 20. The seating comprises a rigid portion 21, Fig. 2, having a tapered surface, preferably of a larger angle than that of the stem so that the stem engages the bottom edge of the taper, and a resilient portion 22 which normally extends inwards of the taper so that it is deformed and seals with the valve stem when the valve is closed. The resilient portion is preferably arranged on the upstream side of the seating and when flow is in the opposite direction, the seating is reversed as is the direction of the taper in the rigid portion. The seating preferably has a radially clearance 36 with the housing so that the valve stem can centre the seating which is then clamped by a member 27. The stem is hexagonal and is actuated by a threaded spindle 31 supported by a bearing 34. The rigid portion of the seating may be formed integrally in the housing. The invention may be applied to pressure relief, pressure reducing or solenoidactuated valves.
