PURPOSE:To enable non-destructive evaluation of the performance of a tensile resisting construction centered on a retainer section of a cable tension member by applying a tension to a submarine cable tension equipment within the extent of not inflicting any damage nor deterioration due to the application of the tension. CONSTITUTION:A retainer holding section 10' is provided to mechanically hold a cable retainer A mounted at the end of a lengthy submarine cable 1 and a cable holding section 11 to hold the cable 1 near the retainer A. A tension applying section 10 is provided which is adapted to apply a tension force between the retainer A and the cable 1 with the movement of both or one of the two holding sections 10' and 11. A sound sensor 15 for detecting a sound wave generated from the retainer A during the application of the tension, a processing section 16 for the output thereof and a recording section 17 are also provided. After the cable 1 is wound on a wheel of the holding section 11 by one or more turns, a tension is applied by a back tension applying section 12 while one or both of the two holding sections 10' and 11 are moved with a hydraulic cylinder or a gear device of an applying section 10. |
