The invention concerns the pusher 8 of a compactor intended for discharging rubbish 23 from a hopper 4 into a container of known type. The mobile spindles 10 and 13 connect the rear of the moving panel 7 to a fixed spindle 17 by two flaps 11 and 15. When the rigid assembly 7, 8 withdraws, the lever arm 20 raises the second spindle 13 (arrow 24) such that the two flaps 11 and 15 fold against each other vertically above the spindle 17 and the panel 7. Application: reduction of the overall length of a compactor whilst ensuring the sealing of the bottom opening 5 of the hopper 4. <IMAGE>
