PURPOSE:To obtain high-precision data of the position and the attitude of an object to be recognized by searching required objects to be recognized in a wide visual field and performing picture processing of objects in a narrow visual field thereafter. CONSTITUTION:First, a television camera 3 having an electric focusing lens 4 is set to a wide visual field to display the whole of an object range 2 on a CRT 9a. The picture on this CRT9a is processed by a picture processing device 9 to obtain the position of the recognition object 2, and a three-dimensional positioning device 5 is driven by a positioning controller 8. Thus, the television camera 3 is moved to the position just above the recognition object 2 to shorten the length between the camera 3 and the object 2, and simultaneously, the electric focusing lens 4 is focused automatically by an electric focusing lens driving device 7 to magnify the image of the object 2 on the CRT9a.
