PRODUCTION OF OPTICAL FIBER

摘要

PURPOSE:To produce an optical fiber having a small initial transmission loss and excellent radiation resistant characteristic by drawing glass base material of which the core part consists of quartz glass and which contains fluorine in the clad part under special conditions. CONSTITUTION:The glass base material 3 of which the core part consists of the quartz glass and which contains at least the fluorine in the clad part is inserted into a resistance furnace 4 for drawing and is melted by heating. The molten material is drawn out under <=2.5kg/mm<2> tension and thereafter the outside diameter is measured with an outside diameter monitor 6. The drawn material is passed through a coating die 7, by which the material is coated with a coating material 8. The coated fiber is taken up on a drum 11 via a drying furnace 9 and a capstan 10.
