PURPOSE:To execute easily and at a low cost a conversion to various codes by executing an operation for converting a data to be written to a magnetic disk, to a code, and converting a code which has been read out of the magnetic disk, to the original data, by a software. CONSTITUTION:A data which is sent through a disk controller is stored in a buffer memory 4 through an interface circuit 6, and in accordance with a data 2-7 code converting program stored in a main memory 3, a microprocessor 2 reads out the data and converts it to its corresponding 2-7 code, and thereafter, stored in the buffer memory 4 again. Subsequently, a read/write circuit 5 reads out the data continuously, applies a modulation and outputs it to a magnetic head 7 and writes it to a disk. On the other hand, a modulating 2-7 code which has been read out by the magnetic head 7 from the disk is demodulated by the read/write circuit 5, and thereafter, converted to the corresponding data and stored i0 the buffer memory in accordance with the 2-7 code/data converting program, and read out through the disk controller and the interface circuit 6.
