In a process for at least partial detachment of a strongly adherent layer of a copolymer from the end of a metal band (belt), preferably an aluminium band, the end of the band is brought into contact with a very small amount of solvent, the solvent is warmed, and, when the heating process is complete, water in very finely divided form is sprayed into the environment of the band while the evaporated solvent is dissolved, and the end of the band is subsequently rinsed with water.
