PURPOSE:To form a uniform and good film which is free from pinholes, crawling and unequal film thickness by coating a coating liquid of the polyimide dissolved in a solvent contg. specific dialkyl malonate and nonprotonic polar org. solvent for forming a liquid crystal orientation film on a substrate by a transfer method, thereby forming the liquid crystal orientation film thereon. CONSTITUTION:The coating liquid of the polyimide dissolved in the solvent contg. at least the dialkyl malonate (alkyl group is of 2-6C) and the nonprotonic polar org. solvent for forming the liquid crystal orientation film is coated on the substrate by the transfer method, by which the liquid crystal orientation film is formed. The amt. of the dialkyl malonate to be added is preferably 10-70wt.%, more particularly preferably 20-50wt.% of the solvent. The excellent orientation film which hardly arises the crawling and unequal film thickness is thus obtd. by taking advantage of the excellent mass productivity of the transfer method. |
