NEW MATERIAL:A compound expressed by formula I (R is H, lower alkyl, lower alkoxy or halogen). EXAMPLE:4-Benzyl-1,6-diethylaniline. USE:A synthetic intermediate for medicines, agricultural chemicals, etc., especially useful as a synthetic intermediate for pyrone-3-carboxamide compounds having herbicidal activity. PREPARATION:A compound expressed by formula II is heat-treated in the presence of an acid (e.g., hydrochloric acid or zinc chloride) at >=80 deg.C, preferably 100-300 deg.C to afford the aimed compound expressed by formula I. A solvent, such as xylene or mesitylene, may be used though the reaction can be carried out in the absence of the solvent. Alternatively, the aimed compound expressed by formula I is also obtained by heat-treating an acid addition salt of a compound expressed by formula II. |
