A sintered material has the composition of, by atom%, 5-25 Ti; 5-20 one or two of Zr and Hf; 5-20 Nb and or Ta; 15-40C, 1-10B and the bal. W and inevitable impurities with the proviso of W=20.55. It has the structure comprising a binder phase based on a W-based alloy and hard phase composed of a compound based on Ti, C, and B and another compound phase based on C, B and two of Zr and Hf. This sintered material is useful as a high-speed machining tool to be used at high temperature, and is improved in its resistance to abrasion, plastic deformation, oxidation, and shock.
