A polyester having a good mechanical property and processability is prepd. by reaction of dicarboxylic acid or its derivs., and diol or its ester derivs., or oxycarboxylic acid or its ester drivs. Where (a) or (b) is added during any step of the reaction to contain 500- 50,000ppm of P or S. Thus 1 kg dimethyl terephthalate, 600g ethylene glycol, 1.5g calcuim acetate, 40g (a) and 0.5 g antimony reacted again at 280 ≦̸C, 0.1 mmHg.
