The invention comprises azo dyes of the formula wherein D represents the radical of a diazo component, R1 and R2 represent identical or different alkyl radicals which may be substituted, and in which the ring A may bear further substituents, the dyes being free from -COOH and -SO3H groups. They may be obtained by diazotizing an amine of the formula D-NH2 and coupling with a compound of the formula Preferred coupling components are those of the formula wherein R3 and R4 each represent H, halogen, OH, alkoxy, acyloxy or -CN, and R5 represents H, halogen, alkyl or alkoxy. The dyes may be applied to textile materials made of fully synthetic or semi-synthetic hydrophobic high-molecular weight organic compounds in the form of filaments, fibres, tops, knitted goods and woven fabrics of linear aromatic polyesters, secondary cellulose acetate or cellulose triacetate. Synthetic polyamides, polyolefins and acrylonitrile polymerization products may also be dyed.
