The subject of the present invention is a device for cooling and lubricating a metal workpiece (1) subjected to high thermal and mechanical stresses, comprising a spray rail (boom) (10) fitted with a plurality of sprinkler nozzles (13), opposite the said metal workpiece (1) to be cooled and lubricated, and supplied with an oil/water emulsion. The rail (10) is divided into several compartments supplied separately with emulsion. The present invention applies to the cooling and lubrication of a working roll of a rolling-mill stand. <IMAGE>
