LUBRICATING OIL COMPOSITION AND ITS PRODUCTION

PURPOSE:To obtain the title composition excellent in oxidation stability by mixing an alkylnaphthalene with benzothiophene or naphthalenethiol. CONSTITUTION:The composition contains an alkylnaphthalene having one or two 8-30C alkyl groups and one or more of benzo[b]thiophene and its derivatives of formula I and naphthalenethiol and its derivatives of formula II. In the formulas, R<1> and R<2> are each an 8-30C monovalent hydrocarbon group; m is 0 to 2; n is 0 to 4; and p is 0 to 3. The composition my be obtained by adding a compound of formula I or II to an alkylnaphthalene; however, it is particularly effective to add benzo[b]thiophene or naphthalenethiol during the production of an alkylnaphthalene and use the obtained reaction mixture as the composition.
