A state checking method for network connection and a terminal thereof are provided to reset a function of an SIM(Subscriber Identity Module) card even though delivery of an authentication and coding command fails or when no response for the command is not received from the SIM card, thereby connecting to a network. When authentication and coding are requested from a network, a command for the authentication and the coding is delivered to an SIM card(S302,S304). If no response corresponding to a command regarding the authentication and the coding is not received from the SIM card, a state checking command is delivered to the SIM card(S306,S308). If a response for the state checking command is received from the SIM card, the command regarding the authentication and the coding is delivered again to the SIM card(S310,S312).
