Disclosed is a heater/air conditioner which comprises a high-capacity heat exchanger, is used for air-conditioning the passenger compartment of automobiles, and is designed and optimized, in terms of the number of pieces and the cost, for large-scale production of automobiles. In said heater/air conditioner, the size of a heat exchanger that is already designed as a high-capacity heat exchanger and is provided with a soldered heat transfer matrix is substantially increased beyond the previously known size such that the vehicle has the same heating capacity as a previous serially produced unit comprising a substantially more expensive auxiliary PTC heater. In addition to reducing costs, the disclosed heater/air conditioner helps reduce fuel consumption by 0.5 to 1.0 l/100 km compared with a unit comprising an auxiliary PTC heater while the heating capacity remains the same. The heat exchanger used therein comprises flat pipes at the coolant end and ribs that face the air and are provided with a plurality of turbulence-generating louvres which follow each other in the direction of air flow. Said heat exchanger preferably has such a volume (V_Matrix) of the heat exchanger matrix, around which the heating air flows, such a center distance (t_Rippe) of the ribs facing the air, and such a center distance (t_Rohr) of the flat coolant pipes, that the resulting specific heat exchanger volume (V_Spec), expressed by the equation V_Spec = V_Matrix/t_Rohr + (4*t_Rippe), exceeds a lower limit of 0.140 m2. |
