<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus that forms a high quality image. <P>SOLUTION: The apparatus includes: a rotary drive means for driving a transfer member in the same direction as a carrying direction of a medium to be recorded; a contact separation means for abutting the transfer member with an image carrier during printing, and for separating the transfer member from the image carrier when not printing, through the medium to be recorded; and a drive transmission shutoff means for transmitting a rotary driving force from the rotary drive means to the transfer member when starting printing, and for shutting off the rotary driving force at the point when the rotation speed of the transfer member is stabled. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT |
