The device has a vacuum mat provided with an upper body-support part (11) and a lower body-support part (13). The mat leaves open a pelvis area at a front side of a patient (20) and an upper side of the patient. The mat has a narrow connection part (12) between the support parts, where the connection part lies in a patient-lateral position within the patient. A handling device (34) is provided at a base (30) for lifting or tilting the base. Gripping sections are provided in the handling device.
